B8 Paper Size

B8 format is on of the smallest paper sizes in B range, that was standardized by ISO 216 in 1975.

Format B8 measures twice a B9, but the proportions are maintained between these two formats, as between all B formats, since Lichtenberg’s ratio, which was subsequently taken over by Portsmann and DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung), and finally, the international standard ISO 216, is still preserved: 1.4142 (a / b = 2b / a = √ 2). This is what is called √2 ratio.

B8 format has an area of 0.0055 m² (or 0.05 square foot, 7.75 square inches). It measures 88 x 62 mm or 3.46 x 2.44 inches. Its printable surface is slightly lower, since we observe the printing margins. This makes it a size too small for writing, then it is reserved to flyers or business cards creation.

The B8 format corresponds to ½ a B7 and ¼ a B6 for larger sizes, 2 B9 pages or 4 B10 pages for sizes smaller in size.

Measuring the weight of a B8 sheet needs to report its area to weight of the chosen paper, always expressed in g/m². Then area is multiplied by weight: 0.0055 x 100 g (for paper of 100g / m²) = 0.55 grams per page.
